Storytime: Strega Nona - by a 3 year old

Strega Nona by Tomie De Paola
Pasta Pot full of Pasta and meatballs

My son came up with this one all on his own. (This was a few weeks ago.) While I was busy doing who-knows-what- he found my yarn stash. He also found an empty basket used as a garbage can. He put the yarn in the basket, added some small toy balls (meatballs) and told me he was Strega Nona (or maybe he was Big Anthony-another character in the book) and he was making pasta in his pasta pot. If you are unfamiliar with this series of books, here is a fun activity for a pre-schooler. Of course, the yarn is a tangled mess now, but really- I have had that yarn for years....and it hasn't had a use until now. Of course, he had to sing the song from the book:
"Bubble, bubble, pasta pot.
Boil me up some pasta, nice and hot.
I'm hungry and it's time to sup.
Boil enough pasta to fill me up."
So go get this book, from the library, your bookshelf, or your favorite bookstore, and have fun connecting a story, an imagination, and some creative play!

What's even better is to really have a strega Nona like I do! She still likes to cook me pasta.

That is such a cute book. I can so see James doing something like that.

That's so cute he did that! It shows how much you do with books at home. Aren't you so grateful for your many years/experience teaching?!

This is hilarious. I haven't ever heard of this book, but I am going to suggest to my mom that she goes by Strega Nonna from now on...Grandma Witch, nice.
