I think I remember making crockpot applesauce for "Apple Day" when I taught first or second grade. However... I don't remember it being this AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! The key is to use lots of diffrent types of apples. We use applesauce in almost all of our baking, so I thought this would be the best way to use the apples I had. I could not find a very easy recipe for it, so I'll share with you what I did:
My Version of Crockpot Applesauce
15-20 apples-all kinds but NOT granny WE used
golden delicious, gala, and fiji
The different apples give it a really sweet flavor.
apple juice (enough to fill the bottom of your crockpot about 1 inch)
lemon juice (from a lemon or other- I used both kinds)
a little sugar (1/2 cup or so)
Put the apple juice in the crockpot- about 1 inch deep. Peel and slice up the apples. Add the apples. Add the lemon juice. I used the juice of one lemon and about 2 tsp. of concentrated lemon juice I had in the fridge. Cook on low for about 6 hours stirring often. Add the sugar if desired. I don't think you really need it if you use lots of different apples. When the apples are really soft, mash them in the pot. I used a wire wisk and a pastry cutter to mash. When all the apples are mashed, and it looks like the consistency of applesauce it is done. It will have some chunks of apples in it. I even used a mixer, but I still had chunks. If you don't want chunks you can run it through a food processor. But if you leave the chunks, it is just like Trader Joe's Big and Chunky Applesauce-actually it is better! Serve warm with sugar and cinnamon. I am not kidding- it is delicious- not to mention low cal :)
I am freezing mine instead of canning it. We freeze applesauce all the time. I found these freezer containers, and they are much more affordable than canning jars. Just stick it in the freezer when cooled, and there you have applesauce for a treat, to feed your kids, or to bake with. (I have another yummy applesauce dessert coming up soon!! )

Yummy! Thanks for the great idea; perfect for fall!!!
My grandma used to put cream on her fresh, warm applesauce. I can almost smell it now! Sweet memories.... thanks.
That's actually on my list of something to make this week. I've just finished making apple butter in the crock pot, oh baby, it was sooo good. Does the applesauce freeze well?

We have frozen store bought applesauce before and it is just fine. I think you don't want to defrost more than you'll eat in a few weeks though or it will go bad. These containers I bought hold 16 oz. and we will eat that in a few days at our house- so it is just the right size! I'm going to make some more right now :)
Sounds amazing, I'm definitely going to try this!
I can't wait to try this. I love anything that can be made in the Crockpot. I'm like my mom and have to cook for an army or I don't feel like I'm really cooking. I love making large batches of anything I can freeze to use for separate dinners. Thanks for the recipe!
Oh, I love crockpot applesauce! I never knew that little 1st grade activity would make an appearance each year in my home :)
Now I know what to do with all the apples on our tree!
