Washi Tape DIY Valentine Decor

Since Valentine's Day is next week, I thought I'd share at least one craft I did for the blessed day of LOVE. {Is anyone even reading this still?? I need to go take care of  my baby who  is coughing and needs another nebulizer treatment...he needs them at least 3 times a day- for the next few months...which is one reason blogging has taken a back seat..for now} And please forgive any misspellings or mistakes in this post... I should be in bed right now....ha ha ha!!

I LOVE Washi Tape! I used to really love pretty paper, and still love pretty fabrics, but washi tape is a true gem! So easy to work with and use! For this craft, I used washi tape, AND duct tape found at the dollar section of Target! {most of these photos are not the best-as in taken with the phone.}

 This craft was pretty fast and simple.

YOU NEED:
Canvas - I bought a pack of them at Ross for like $4.
Paint- I spray painted the blue ones, and used craft acrylic paint on the others.
Washi tape, duct tape or any kind of decorative tape
cardstock hearts
Modge Podge
sponge brushes

 INSTRUCTIONS:
Paint the surface of the canvas. You don't need to paint the edges if you are going to use the tape to cover the edges. Let it dry.
Cut out hearts out of cardstock. I don't own a fancy machine, so I traced a little chipboard heart I had, and it worked just fine. Cover your hearts with tape. I did one row at a time, and trimmed the edges instead of wrapping them around the back. The hearts looked for even this way, and stuck to the canvas better. Decide what pattern you want your hearts in. With your sponge brush, brush the canvas with Modge Podge. Place the heart down. Continue until all hearts are placed. Let dry for about 5-10 minutes. Then apply the top coat of Modge Podge, and let dry. To add washi tape to the edges, I did a thin coat of Modge Podge and then applied the tape, and did a thin coat of Modge Podge on top. The tape peeled off if I did not use the Modge Podge.
 Display your heart collage for all to see! So easy and fun. Of course you could do this same thing with scraps of patterned paper or fabric. I think the washi tape is fun.

Thanks for reading-- those of you that still do! I have a fun book give-a-way--- I just need to get it all posted! Stay tuned- it is a great one for the New Year!
