Mall Pretzels

Ever since a fellow blogger friend posted something about pretzels I have been wanting to make some! So here are the delicious "Mall Pretzels" I made the other night. I changed the recipe just slightly. The original recipe can be found on allrecipes . Here is the recipe with our changes. They are best fresh out of the oven! They were so good I had a hard time not eating at least four. The next day they were still good, but my kids ate most of them. There are lots of recipes out there for homemade pretzels....personally I thought these were really good, (especially the ones with cinnamon and sugar) and I will definitely be making them again!

MALL PRETZELS

INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 tsp. active
dry yeast
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/8 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups warm water (110
degrees F/45 degrees C)
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups warm water (110
degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 tablespoons baking soda
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons coarse kosher
salt

cinnamon and sugar

DIRECTIONS:

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast, brown sugar and salt in 1 1/2 cups warm water. Stir in flour, and knead dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 7- 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, and turn to coat the surface. Cover, and let rise for two hours.

Combine 2 cups warm water and baking soda in an 8 inch square pan.

After dough has risen, break off a good sized piece. (my recipe made about 16 pretzels). Roll each piece into a 2-3 foot rope, to your desired thickness. Mine were a big thinner than my finger width. Twist into a pretzel shape, and dip into the baking soda solution. Place on parchment covered cookie sheets or Pam sprayed cookie sheets, and let rise 15 to 20 minutes.

Bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) for 7- 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt, garlic salt or cinnamon sugar. Enjoy fresh and warm for a very delicious treat!

I started making pretzels in high school, but hadn't for YEARS until my cousin reminded me. I recently made some for Elton and we love them better than the mall. It's fun to make your own bagels, too - they're very similar to pretzels. I got the recipe off allrecipes, too. Delicious!

You amaze me. I can't believe you try so many new things. I need to be better about trying new things. These look really yummy. I haven't had a good pretzel since Costco stopped selling them.
